Compared To Other Top Self-Defense Rounds

Our Civil Defense 9mm projectiles function differently than any other self-defense round on the market. We designed the Civil Defense line to eliminate threats with one round. We did this by creating the maximum amount of damage and tissue disruption possible. They do well against barriers, but when the large cavity fills with fluid, the hydraulic pressure builds until the side walls of the projectile rupture. . This process also benefits in many other areas across the spectrum of things considered when talking about self-defense. Such as reduced over-penetration and lessening the risk of unintended casualties. Having a lighter projectile also leads to less muzzle flip for faster follow-up shots.

Virtual no muzzle jump rapid fire, designed to eliminate threat to life, only drawback quite loud. (My personal experience, Army Vietnam, police officer, retired SA FBI)

Response from Liberty Ammunition

Sir,

Thank you for your service and for carrying Liberty Ammunition.

Good in theory and mechanically. Questionable in practicality.

As far as actual performance they’re great. But I feel like I need to be the devil’s advocate here. The idea is good on paper. But realistically it has a lot of pitfalls. Statistically people are more likely to shoot a housemate in the confusion than an intruder. Making sure the wound channel is extreme would really backfire in that case. You also really need to be in a castle doctrine state because someone who invaded your home could sue you and probably win a civil case for knowing you’re buying a product designed around intentionally maiming them more than “necessary” whatever that means(dont blame me for saying it, blame legal precedent for already having it happen.)

If you know you won’t hit the wrong person and are somewhere like Florida, Texas or Arizona, get some and feel secure in knowing they will do exactly what you want. If any of those criteria are in question you should probably stick to something more tame.

Response from Liberty Ammunition

Your comments are more for the use of a firearm.

You are conflating the activity of the firearm owner with performance of the ammunition.

And it is incorrect to believe that housemates are shot more often than the intruder.

Did you know there are over 65,000 self-defense uses of a firearm each year (FBI data)?

We make the best self-defense ammunition.

End of story and full stop.

Why use a less effective ammunition in a self-defense situation?

Don’t blame the firearm or the ammunition if someone shoots the wrong person.

It’s the individual, not the equipment.

Why dont you guys make 22lr ammo?

Response from Liberty Ammunition

We don’t have rimfire equipment to make .22 LR.

There are some pretty good brands out there already with lead bullets.

We are a “copper house” and can’t compete on those low prices.

Love it

Although I currently have three calibers that I carry or use at home or in the car for self-defense loaded with the OverWatch it definitely Bridges the gap for short barrel 380 auto. I like the increase the weight a little bit to get a little bit more penetration I feel better shooting a 72 grain out of my 9 mm then a 50 grain. I can’t imagine what the 105 grain 45 ACP will do. These rounds are smoking hot and they kick less than Target ammo I can assure anyone who has their doubts that while it might not be quite FBI approved. There’s no question in my mind that this animal will probably drop two-legged predators faster than anything on the market just watch the gelatin videos. Nothing else in 9 mm explodes a temporary wound cavity about 2 in into the flesh that’s the size of a grapefruit and at the end of that cavity is a radio blast of shrapnel that has every bit of an 8 in diameter spread from the testing and they pretty much have it dialed in to where that base which is usually about half the weight of the round continues on to usually about 12 12 1/2 in. I’ve seen it I’ve shot it I trust my life with it. I usually load my first half of my mag with Liberty and the second half of my mag with Underwood extreme Defender just in case I get that far down in my magazine I’m still shooting maybe I’m not penetrating enough or getting through a barrier the Underwood is the best chance I have for that has a backup. But I seriously doubt anyone would be standing after two to three shots to the chest with a grapefruit sized explosion happening in their chest or wherever I shot it through two by six Boards of some really wet Pine and it cut a hole straight through the first one clean like somebody had drilled it out and blew through the second one twisting and breaking apart so I have no doubt it will break through a bone if a bad shot or a sideways shot that the FBI fears happens. If you have to shoot through the side it’s okay if you hit their arm because they will no longer have a useful arm. Be safe out there practice stay alert and remember lethal self-defense it’s not something to be taken lightly.

Thanks Brad,

We appreciate it.

Worth mentioning that our ammo does pass protocols and is NTOA recommended.

And you are right, it will get th job done.

BODYGUARD 2.0 Carry Comp

March 9, 2026

This is the most unique stuff out there. It’s the only round I’ll carry in my Bodyguard 2.0. Thanks guys!

Response from Liberty Ammunition

Steven,

Be sure to use the Civil Defense .380 in your BodyGuard 2.0.

We don’t recommend the Ultra Light or SPike for that pistol.

It has an un-supported chamber that can lead to FTE.

Amazing Ammo!

My 79-year-old Mother has no problem shooting this ammo from her .380 Ruger Security lite rack. The low recoil is amazing. Perfect for elderly folks. Great ammo!

Our 380 Civil Defense Rounds Changed The Pocket Pistol Game. For A Long Time, Everyone Criticized The 380 ACP For Not Having Enough Kinetic Energy. That’s Not The Case Anymore. Our 380 Is One Of Our Most Sought After Rounds Because It Packs Enough Punch, It Gets The Job Done.
