Liberty Ammunition – It Just Hits Harder
When you think “defensive ammo” Liberty Ammunition may not be the first brand that pops into your mind… but it will after this! Since 2005 Liberty Ammunition has been focused on defensive ammo. If you’re carrying for self-defense, you absolutely should be using defensive ammunition. Why? Because regular ammo is designed for target / plinking and not for stopping a threat. Liberty Ammunition is specifically designed to stop that threat – because it figuratively and very literally just hits harder!
Why do you need defensive ammo? Simply put, defensive ammunition is designed differently to expand on impact to stop a threat. Regular ammunition can over-penetrate the target, most times going straight through it, and finally coming to a stop somewhere far past the target. This is dangerous and can cause collateral damage to innocent persons and property.
Now that you know why you need defensive ammo, I’ll explain why Liberty is better than the rest!
Several factors make Liberty different.
- It’s lighter. As an experiment, I grabbed a box of self-defense 9mm that I had on hand in an effort to compare it by weight. Ironically, I had a brand that touts “Lite” right on the box. I loaded 7 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense Lite into a spare 7-round Honor Defense magazine. Using the only scale I had on hand that can weigh in ounces (so this won’t be exact) the Critical Defense Lite magazine weighed in at 4.5 ounces. I then loaded the same magazine with Liberty Ammunitions Ultra-Lights. The magazine weighed in at a mere 3 ounces. The weight of the empty magazine was 2 ounces. Why does lighter matter? It’s just more comfortable to carry, especially if you’re carrying a spare magazine or two.
- It’s faster to the target. Let’s take a look at Liberty’s velocity. Velocity is defined as the rate of speed with which something happens; rapidity of action or reaction. Using Liberty’s 9mm as an example, Liberty travels at 2040 FPS (feet per second). It’s not only fast, it’s faster than the speed of sound! You can see by the following chart, how Liberty’s velocity is superior.
- Ruptures on impact. Liberty claims their rounds stop a threat with one shot. Afterall, that’s what we all want, right? Because of the speed, it creates hydrostatic shock when it meets with soft tissue. By design, Liberty creates the maximum amount of damage and tissue disruption possible.
- Reduced muzzle flip: Liberty estimates the felt recoil is 32 to 38% less than their competitors, this means you’ll get your second shot on target faster… assuming you even need it after the first shot.
Liberty’s Current Offerings:
Civil Defense (Manufacturer Description): Our Civil Defense 9mm projectiles function differently than any other self-defense round on the market. We designed the Civil Defense line to eliminate threats with one round. We did this by creating the maximum amount of damage and tissue disruption possible. They do well against barriers, but when the large cavity fills with fluid, the hydraulic pressure builds until the side walls of the projectile explode. With that explosion comes rifle-sized temporary cavities and hydrostatic shock, therefore increasing stopping power by tenfold. Following the explosion, the bullet fragments into a starburst-shaped pattern creating multiple wound channels. This process also benefits in many other areas across the spectrum of things considered when talking about self-defense. Such as reduced over-penetration and lessening the risk of unintended casualties. Having a lighter projectile also leads to less muzzle flip for faster follow-up shots.
